Welcome to the most exciting region in Europe – the Best of the
Arctic

Welcome to our world, a world that offers
unusual experiences closer than you think. Whether it is adventure and
exciting activities or relaxation you are after, the variations in climate,
environment, nature and choice mean that it is always peak season somewhere
in the region!
There are forests and rivers in inland Sweden with sources in the northern
mountain regions of Swedish Lapland. The Swedish mountains with names
like Kebnekaise and Låkktatjåkka have always been desirable
destinations, and skiers have visited Riksgränsen and Björkliden
for generations. Abisko offers constant sun over the national park and
dramatic nature variations with mountains that drop down into the Norwegian
fjords, where the seawater mixes with the fresh glacier water.
Norway has an exciting history and varied nature. Experience the beaches,
marked by war, near Narvik and wild killer whales playing in the mid-winter
light in Tysfjord. The author Hamsun’s spirit hovers over Tranöy
Lighthouse and there, on the horizon, you can see all of Lofoten, a
tremendous experience.
The sea eagles soar over the skrei fishermen’s armada of boats
that leave the historic beaches at dawn, following in the footsteps
of the Vikings. The varied nature and culture offer a magnificent and
unsurpassed experience for the curious traveller and visitor.
The term “the Best of the Arctic” offers quality-assured
experiences 365 days a year. There are organisers with decades of experience
of professional group and conference trips. There is the world-famous
ICEHOTEL © and unique killer whale safaris, historic and well-known
nature and an almost limitless choice of activities.
We would like to present the experiences primarily as packages –
ready-made adventures. This will help the traveller to find his grains
of gold, selecting by interest, season or reason. Compose your own package
of experiences with inspiration from the Best of the Arctic, or contact
one of the companies to book a ready-made or tailored packages.
The Best of the Arctic is not a new trademark or company – the
Best of the Arctic can be seen as a new platform to show off one of
Europe’s most exciting areas to explore. The aim of “the
Best of the Arctic” is to be one of Scandinavia’s 8-10 clearest
concepts within international travel by 2014.
Cooperation between entrepreneurs and organisations without thought
for border or season is a great opportunity to offer fantastic experiences
throughout the region – all the year round.
In 2004-2006, cooperation will take place through an Interreg III project
between Kiruna Swedish Lapland, Narvik-Nordland, Lofoten and the Kingdom
of Hamsun, with thanks to our financial backers Interreg in Sweden and
Norway, County Administrative Board Sweden, the Municipality of Kiruna,
Innovasjon Norge and Nordland Fylke.
The project was born of a network trip carried out in 2003 on the initiative
of Kiruna Swedish Lapland and Destination Narvik.
The aim of the project is to create a network to increase trade in and
between companies in the region and to market experiences all the year
round and thereby give more visitors more opportunities to visit the
Best of the Arctic.
